I told my mom it's dry clean only but she thinks she might be able to hand wash it. It really depends on the fabric. Manufacturers put the absolute safest way to clean a material. Do a search on the fabric to see about cleaning restrictions/recommendations.

You might also want to point out that a blanket is very hard to wring out because of the size and that it will take forever to dry and wringing out the item may also damage it.
Usually when something is dry clean only it is because it will shrink or the colour isnt colourfast in water.
