They have collected a lot of dust, is there a better alternative that still lets in light but offers privacy?Whats the best way to wash and clean lace curtains?
you can take them down and gently shake the dust out of them outside.
place them in your washing machine and wash them on the gentlest cycle. They should be fine, but for extra protection, you could put them in a pillow case.Whats the best way to wash and clean lace curtains?
dry cleaners
By hand with Woollite.
Send them to the laundry.
you can wash them in the washing machine on low and hang them to dry then iron them. you can use blinds for privacy if that is what you want. you can close the blinds at night and open them in the day. hokey?
Chuck them in the sink, and leave them for the missus to do

take the curtain downe. get some wolite--- run some luke warm water in a sink, and let them set inn woolite for a while the, hand drain the curtains- rinse them of really good, put them upo on hangers and let them-- hand dry or if you got a clothes dryer put them on the flufff- cycle-- best too let them hand dry on hangers t thou hons!!
You can start by putting them in the dryer without heat to ';dust'; them. If you think they are in need of a washing then put them in the wash on gentle. And when you put them in the dryer use low or no heat.
i just wash mine in the washer on delicat setting and then hang them up after they are washed.
i wiash mine like my mom taught me.... take them down.... air them outside for a couple hours on a good windy day.... then twice as much water as normally would use.... gentle cycle.... add a clean sheet then the curtians.... 1/4 cup of white vinegar in the wash or rinse. air dry them. the vinager is a whitener, softner and disenfectant and no i promise they won't smell! if they are slightly discolored leave them outside int he sunshine a bit longer and you will find the suns natural bleaching agent take over -and yes i know it's winter as long as it's not snowing....
soak then im warm water in a curtain whitner available from all supermarkets
Put them in a lingerie laundry bag (one of those net ones) or inside a pillow case you can tie up before throwing in the washer.
They won't get torn up that way.
If you want to put that privacy film on the glass on your windows it does work really well for letting in light but you can't see through it. My daughter did that in her downstairs, she has a contemporay look and didn't want curtains. It turned out really nice. You either have to have a steady hand or just hire a glass company to do it so you get a nice job. The guys that put the tinting on car windows usually do the privacy film as well.
